McGowan House

Monterey Bay Zen Center maintains one of its two residencies on the grounds of St. James Episcopal Church in Monterey. The retreat building, known as McGowan House, includes a zendo, library and meeting space. Friday Brown Bag Zen meets in the zendo.

Access to the McGowan House parking lot is on W Franklin at the corner of High Street (the other side of the block from the main entrance of the church sanctuary on Hellam.) The wood-shingled building is McGowan House. From campus entrances there are paths leading to the building’s front door. Walk on in, turn left, and within a few steps you will find yourself at the Zendo Door.
