At the moment

My ears hear voices

As they are

Everyone I speak with

Is my friend

Eihei Dogen Zenji (1200-1253)

Jizo Bodhisattva. From a scroll by Sara Hunsaker.

Dear Friends,

Given the impermanence of our so-called individual lives, what is the most important thing? What is an appropriate response during these perplexing times?

Monterey Bay Zen Center has been nurturing the bodhisattva way, the path of awakening, for over 35 years. The path is beginningless and endless and constantly changing; it is also called our life. This way of life, is our gift to one another and to all beings. Zen practice is how we realize and express this gift.

Thank you for your life and practice — and for your support. Please consider a donation to Monterey Bay Zen Center that reflects your generosity.

With great gratitude,

Jizo is venerated, particularly in Japan, as benefitting all beings: children (including the unborn), those in the depths of hells, travelers. The staff carried has rings letting those ahead know of arrival. The Wish Fulfilling Gem being held is a gift — an offering.
